Severna Park Middle Team Marylanders

Severna Park Middle Team Marylanders

Thank you to Severna Park Middle School’s 8th-grade Team Marylanders for bringing SPAN three carloads of food donations for a community service project! Since summer brings an increased need for food, we are extremely grateful for the timing of these donations. Math teacher Kendra Schauppner organized this collection along with Terrie Hartman, Patty DeLeat, Christine Torelli and a whole lot of generous students and parents. Food pantry volunteers helping are Keith Brady, Pat Blanchfield and Pam Hicks. Thanks to you, we are making a difference every day!

There is no question the Chartwell Foundation, and therefore the members of the Chartwell Golf and Country Club have had a positive impact on the lives of our neighbors. Community Garden Harvest Fresh Vegetables

Community Garden Harvest Fresh Vegetables for SPAN

Garden - Copy (2)Volunteers from around the community have come together at Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Severna Park to support SPAN’s food bank through a community garden. From the Amazing Grace Lutheran Church in Baltimore, Maryland Sunrise Farms in Odenton to members of Our Shepherd Lutheran Church, Severna Park United Methodist Church, John Paul II Roman Catholic Home School and individuals, all came together to work the garden.

The garden, managed by Fred Wilson from Our Shepherd Lutheran Church, was built this spring and throughout the summer has provided a steady flow of vegetables such as tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, kale and spinach. Great things happen when we work together to help our neighbors. AND TOGETHER WE ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE EVERY DAY!

A Party for SPAN

A Party For SPAN!

AlliebdayLast fall, Allie, a rising sixth grader, and her mom read the book I am Malala together, a story that touched Allie’s heart and inspired her to learn more about helping others and wanting to help families who are struggling every day.

Allie, a student at Severn School, learned about SPAN and our mission through a food drive sponsored by students in Severn’s upper school. She was so impressed with the students collecting over 10,000 items for SPAN’s food bank; it was an easy jump for Allie to ask guests attending her 10th birthday party to bring a gift for SPAN! Through the generosity of friends, Allie and her mom brought bags of food to SPAN filled with dried pasta, canned vegetables and tuna, pancake mix, and other items. The amazing thing about asking friends to come together to help is that every friend’s small contribution adds up and is much more than any of us could do on our own. A party is a fun way to make a difference!

Girl Scouts donatingGirl Scout Troop #10227 facilitated the annual Halloween candy collection drive at Benfield Elementary School. This drive benefited our community on many levels. The Girl Scout troop partnered with Dr. Collins Pediatric Dentistry and Dr. O’Reilly & Assoc., both of whom matched the number of pounds of candy collected with a monetary donation. Benfield students donated over 300 pounds of candy to this cause!!!! The monetary donation was then donated to SPAN. Through this partnership, the girls were able to collect $490.00 to give to SPAN. The local dentists then donated the collected candy to Operation Welcome Home, which is a program to support military personnel returning home. The girl scout troop is led by Laura Masone, Cristi Bishop and Elizabeth Nelson.

Olivia and Seth Birthday for SPAN

Olivia & Seth D. Celebrate Their Birthdays For SPAN

BIrthday Party GroupOlivia and Seth were celebrating their 33rd birthdays with a backyard BBQ. In lieu of presents, they asked their guest to bring food donations for SPAN. Through the generosity of their friends, Olivia and Seth brought bags of food to SPAN filled with dried pasta, canned vegetables and tuna, pancake mix, and other items.

When asked how they became involved with SPAN, Olivia said, “When we moved to this area last fall, we became involved through the holiday sharing program. This program reminded me that even though Severna Park has many residents with means, there are always families struggling among us. We have been blessed in many ways and we
want to be good stewards of the resources that have been entrusted to us, and we are fortunate that our friends felt moved to be generous. The amazing thing about asking friends to come together to help is that every friend’s small contribution adds up to much more than any of us could do on our own. And a birthday party is a fun way to make a difference”!
